Adam Bownik Ph.D

Assistant professor

Adam Bownik  master's degree  at the John Paul II Catholic

University of Lublin in Poland in 1996 and started working at the

Department of Biology and Toxicology as an assistant. I performed

experiments on the effects of pesticides, bacterial toxins and

immunomodulators on immunity of lower and higher vertebrates with

Prof. Maria Studnicka and prof. Andrzej K. Siwicki and in

collaboration with Nika Heath Products, USA.  In 2000 my interests

were focused on the effects of bacterial toxins on fish immune

system. At that time I got my PhD and cooperated with prof. Gilles

Prevost from Institut de Bactériologie de la Faculté de Médecine

in France and prof. Stanislaw Szmigielski from the Military

Institute in Warsaw, Poland.  In 2006 I accepted an associate

professor position and together with prof. Tadeusz Skowronski I

started research on the influence of cyanotoxins on fish immunity

together with Centre for Ecological Research in Lublin and was a

coinvestigator in 2 extramural research project on the influence

of microcystins and anatoxin-a. In 2013 I started investigation

with prof. Zofia Stepniewska on the influence of bacterial

osmoprotectant, ectoine on animals. We have been included in an

international research project on the industrial production

bacteria-derived compounds for biotechnological purposes. I am an

author or a co-author of more than 60 publications including 1

Research Interests
